From Week 7 onward, DM2008 shifts from the p5.js Web Editor to local development. This guide sets up VS Code so you can run, organize, and version your sketches properly.

Requirements

• A computer with admin rights
• Internet access
• Your GitHub account (used in the next section)

1️⃣ Install VS Code

1. Download VS Code: https://code.visualstudio.com/download
2. Install using default options (no custom configuration needed)

2️⃣ Install Essential Extensions

Open VS Code → Extensions (Shift+Cmd+X on macOS / Ctrl+Shift+X on Windows) → install:

Compulsory

• Live Server runs a local web server for previews

Optional, but helpful

• p5.vscode to get p5.js snippets and autocompletion
• Prettier for auto-formatting your code so it looks neat

We will use these in class during the Local Tooling session.
